I cant wait to get get since my Copper 75-100 sucks with T3200, I lose IPs and wireless devices have to be rebooted, Powerline doesnt work and bridged routers also lose IPs ( all this worked fine on 50mpbs )
Anyways, now with Fibre
20 year old Townhouse
The Fibre Unit is in the garage
Really, what are my options?
I understand that I dont need to use Telus router, I can use my own - so whats my best option here? get 1 single ethernet out the door of the garage, and connect router and then some kinda mesh system as my rooms aer all upstairs. The garage doesn't have even have coax, all that runs from outside. How can I get this wired?

BC Telus Purefibre experience (Overall Extremely Happy! SFP install)
It's been about two years since I started submitting the requests to Telus to install fibre in my neighbourhood. I'd been disappointed to see that we were 300m outside of Telus' 2018 planned installation area. I had a local Lecdor contractor approach me around April of this year, and we began the process with the Strata.
After a few months, meetings, and onsite inspections the installation was completed last week. (Be prepared for confusion when dates and fibre pulls will happen, this was *VERY* poorly communicated and resulted in the fibre pull techs being here for a week instead of the planned '3 days.' In their defence, our 12-year-old conduits were poorly installed by a sub-contractor with 90 degree bends in them.)
I was able to request an install right away on the Thursday. I'd read all the reports and I'd seen the (terrible) install done at my neighbour's condo.
The Telus technician showed up on time, and began to unbox the ONT hardware that was aptly described in sizing as "a frozen package of grocery store lasagne for a family of four." As well as the router I sure as heck wasn't going to use after he left.
I said to him, "I wish you guys had an SFP for this instead of that massive ONT. "
My jaw hit the floor when he said, "I have one in my Truck! It plugs into the back of one of our newer, advanced modems." He took one look in my front hall closet (where the demarc is) and said, "You won't have a problem with this." I happen to have a Cisco SG300-10 which has two SFP ports in it. (I recall purchasing this switch years ago thinking, "I'll never use fibre or SFP's.")
He installed the SFP into the Telus modem, did his diagnostics, to prove that the connection worked, and his benchmark tools got about 300Mbps consistently. I then plugged it into the SFP port on the Cisco switch and had to do some network re-jigging as my current firewall; the Ubiquiti ER-X only has copper.
[For those that care. I set up a private, isolated, VLAN from the SFP port to another port that I then plugged the EdgeRouter into, a quick temporary fix. Which then connects back into the switch. Kludgy but it will suffice until an ER-4 is available.]
I re-ran the benchmarks, after making sure I'd enabled hardware offload on the ER-X. 330Mbps both ways, a 10% performance increase over the Telus Router! (Likely QoS, see disclaimer below)
Things I learned:
1) I don't think you can just run out to fs.com and buy your own SFP to GPON converter ($150 Canadian BTW), the one I received is from Nokia. He had to scan a QRcode on it and register it for the Head Office OLT to use it. (That's what the tech said, but if someone knows differently, please chime in!)
2) SFP isn't available on all networks he said, only recent installs. (I may have misunderstood from what he might have meant was, "It's only recently available.")
3) He recommended, and I agreed, to keep the router (not the 'frozen lasagne' ONT) for "testing, diagnostic and 'proof' for troubleshooting in the future." It's in the box, on a shelf.
4) the OLT SFP package said, "GPON ONT SFP (G-010S-A)"
5) There are a lot of new acronyms when researching Fibre, I knew nothing about this until a month ago, acronym mistakes may have been made in this post.
6) Bad splices are frequent, he had to re-splice the one in my maintenance room after re-doing the one in my condo 3 times.
As full disclosure, I will *ONLY* use this connection for Internet, I will not (at least for a while) use this for phone or TV. That will require some very special firewall configurations as well as make my internet run slower when the TV is on!

New Billing System Price Increase
Telus to match Shaw is silently increasing the cost of everyone formerly on Fibre 150 transitioning to PureFibre 150 by $5. This is to usher in the new era of billing and I guess gouging?
Anyone have details on this? Can we stay on the old billing system and not support this lunacy?

[BC] PureFibre installation
Are those two white boxes are a MUST for every PureFibre installation (in addition to the black modem/router)?
Thanks.

TELUS DNS Config
Hey guys, for some reason every single device connected to the T3200M seems to be using the DNS server of 192.168.1.254 as the primary. That's the gateway address if I'm not mistaken, and this causes pages to resolve quite slowly. I manually adjusted the DNS to match what the T3200M's log-in page states, and this has fixed the problem.
Is anyone else noticing this too or is this an isolated issue on my end? Other than manually setting the DNS on every new device that I connect, is there a better way of fixing this issue?

Upgraded to PureFibe - ipv6 routing stops working after 90 minutes
Just upgraded to PureFibe in North Vancouver and was given a T3200m. I've noticed that ipv6 routing works for the first 92 minutes after the T3200m is rebooted. After this time, I still have a global ipv6 address but lose routing with the response "Destination net unreachable". If I reboot the router, it resumes for another 92 minutes. Interestingly, I get a different /56 PD each reboot even though I thought the PD is fairly static.
It's not my local LAN. The Actiontec itself cannot ping any ipv6 addresses from its ipv6 ping test screen so this is definitely a Telus issue. Technical support does not understand what ipv6 is.
Any ideas? I can't be rebooting every 2 hours.

Is Wholesale Fiber coming to Alberta using TELUS? Will it use PPPOE?
Is Wholesale Fiber coming to Alberta using TELUS? Will it use PPPOE?
Will it be profitable for TELUS?
I hear that PPPOE adds up to 15 ms latency (depending where its being tunneled to) /over head on VDSL but allows ISPs to tunnel the traffic from the concentrator .

Bridge Mode
I seem to remember TELUS not allowing a user to use a separate router in bridge mode in the past. Has this changed? I've read some things indicating that the use of your own router is now allowed.

[AB] Optic TV question
My folks will be house-sitting for us late this summer when we are gone on holidays for a couple weeks. They live in the Edmonton area and I live just outside Lethbridge. The problem I have is I cut the cord for TV 10 years ago, and my folks watch a fair amount of TV. They would probably go nuts not having any of their favorite shows for over 2 weeeks. They have Telus Optic TV up north and while I obviously don't, I do have 250/250 fibre Telus at our place and I am wired with CAT5e.
Anyone know if the folks can simply bring their Telus TV box to my place, plug it into my network and get their TV service? Or is there more on the back-end with getting TV hooked up?
I doubt it's this simple, but thought I'd ask in case anyone knows.

TELUS SMTP
Anyone know of anything that has changed with the TELUS SMTP? Getting a pile of phone calls over the past few days regarding scanning to email from copiers and such. Seems that TELUS is trying to clamp down on what's going through their mail servers.

Is anyone using pfSense development snapshot?
I've been using pfSense for the past few years. I usually have a couple of systems running. (Here is some background: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30890286-Actiontec-TX200H-Bridged-Port-1-pfSense-Native-IPv6.)
My main system is currently running the most recent release, which is 2.4.3-RELEASE-p1. This system has been working perfectly.
My other system runs the most recent development snapshot, which is currently 2.4.4-DEVELOPMENT. Starting in April, this system stopped working properly. The ipv6 gateway will not connect. The only indication of a problem in the log is a couple of messages in the DHCP log:
Apr 26 22:33:19 dhcp6c 10972 Sending Solicit
Apr 26 22:33:19 dhcp6c 10972 transmit failed: Input/output error
When dhcp6c tries to send a dhcp solicit to the Telus edge router, it fails. There is no recovery from this error. I've reported it to the pfSense community and no one else is experiencing it. I've tried reinstalling pfsense and it made no difference. I even tried using a different NIC, but that also made no difference. (I'm running both of my pfsense systems on a Windows 2012R2 Hyper-V server.)
I would appreciate if anyone who is running the pfSense development snapshot would let me know if you are experiencing this problem.

[BC] DSL providers
Last week I called an ISP to switch my DSL from Telus. $63.00 a month for 6Mbps? Seriously? The ISP checked with Telus and was told the fastest speed I could get was 1Mbps. I've had 6Mbps forever and I've been through this argument with some overseas Telus employee before telling me that I can't get the speed I already have. How do you deal with a company like this?

Optik 4K? - Not without Telus Internet 50
I was very annoyed to find out that canceling my Telus internet gimps my optik TV by dropping the 4K completely as well as dropping my stream profile from 5HD streams down to 3.
What the heck Telus? In an age where TV subscriptions are dropping like a lead balloon its policy like this that will kill off TV service completely.
They even have to send a tech to my house to dowbgrade my system from 2 DSL lines to 1.
When the tech gets here i'm going to ask if theres any way around this or i'll be cancelling my TV as well.
Anyone here cross this bridge before?

Telus ipv6 broken?
(I posted this on the Telus forum and it was removed.)
I signed up for fibre in July, and I was having strange networking issues (as in: sites would take 10-20 seconds to start loading.) I noticed one morning that while sometimes dns on ipv6 appeared to work it wouldn't actually be able to connect via ipv6. The connection would try a couple times, fail, then fall back to ipv4 which always worked. I saw this behaviour when running rsync, then I realized sometimes ipv6 dns would fail and eventually timeout before using ipv4 as well.
I got around this by disabling ipv6 support in my devices, but my phone and tablet still had issues, so I disabled ipv6 in the modem (T3200m). I've had no issues at all since then.
However, someone else recently upgraded to fibre and the Telus said "your PC is broken" and so they brought it to my house, and the Windows event log is filled with dns lookup failures. Of course, the computer had no problems here at my house as I have ipv6 completely disabled.
Does anyone else have this problem? Back then I didn't want to try to talk to the Telus technical support and go through the rebooting modem BS (protip: it doesn't help to reset the modem) and don't want to spend hours talking to someone who has no clue what my problem actually is.

DSL Internet 75 to PureFibre 75
Hello all, just wondering about switching from DSL Internet 75 to PureFibre 75 (I am not interested in higher speeds as of now) which will be installed very soon. I have heard conflicting information on whether or not my current internet discounts and credits will be applied to PureFibre 75 as soon as I switch to that service.
When I ordered DSL 75 on June 1, 2018, the rep told me that when my building switches over to PureFibre, I will continue to enjoy my current discounts and credits (they are 1-year long, until June 1, 2019). I am on a 2-year contract until November 2019 as I also have Optik TV.
However, I have heard from other users that their discounts/credits were not continued when they switched to Fibre (even though DSL 75 and PureFibre 75 have the same original price)! Can anyone please share their experiences in this situation. Thank you!!

Best Mesh system recommendation
So finally Telus coming over for 300/300 this Saturday, unsure if they will do it that day as I was told there is a 10 day wait time till someone comes over a new install place? ( dunno ) but my place already has the telus fibre thing installed in the garage...There is no way I can connect via wires..so thinking of a mesh system - what is considered the best? or any recommendations here?

Fast forward - What will happen after 1gpbs is standard everywhere?
I've been pondering the question, What will come/happen once 100% of the population has access to gigabit Fiber, what will come after that? 5G Wireless will be everywhere, 802.11ax will be in the rear view mirror. I am looking at 2025-2028. Will Fiber speeds increase to the 2.5gbps standard that was rectified a few years back?
How will ISP's compete and how long will we be plautoed at 1gbs residential? I know business aready are getting symmetrical 10gbps connections.
I can see new stuff like uncompressed 4-8K video being the norm and 1gbps being too slow for say. family of 4 with teens.
