Bit of a weird issue here... will try and keep it short.
I'm in Vancouver in a cluster of rental apartment buildings. Basically several 3 story apartments grouped together.
A little over 18 months ago, Telus ran fiber to each unit. Conduit goes around the outside of each building, dropping in to each unit beside the balcony, where it's terminated inside with a coil of fiber in one of those little white service boxes.
I just moved in a few months ago, and it seems for whatever reason, they won't let me sign up for fiber internet.
If I punch my address in to the tool on their site, it says it's not available.
If I call in, their outsourced front line phone staff don't have any information other than what the online tool says.
Some neighbours claim they're on fiber, though tbh none of the ones I've met are technical, so they may just be confused about fiber vs "optik tv" over DSL.
It feels like this must be an internal miscommunication with Telus... It seems kind of insane to go through the huge cost of wiring 150+ units for fiber, and then to go a year and a half without allowing people to actually sign up and use it.
If it's really not available, so be it.... I'm just wondering if there is any way I can find out what's actually going on.
Thoughts?

2.4GHZ stopped working on both T3200Ms
So I had a power outage and tried to reconnect my T3200 which was sitting at 31.164L.10 and 5GHZ worked fine but not 2.4GHZ, so I tried to factory reset etc, change SSID , forget devices but everytime I try to connect it says no internet on my Android, Iphone, Ipad. After resetting, it actually updated the f/w - 31.164L.12
I thought I fried it, but I had a spare T3200M - now this also has same issue, 2.5GHZ wouldnt work
Smart Steering is disabled? WTF happened here

30% Decrease in DL & UL Speeds on TELUS Fibre since late Nov. 2017
Long time lurker on these forums, first time poster. Huge thank you to many of you for all the time and Q&A you put into this place. It's helped me SO many times!
I have had TELUS Fibre internet for just over 2 years. Year 1 had me on the 100x20 package as that was all that was available, but Year 2 and now I have been on 150x150.
I am also part of the Sam Knows & the CRTC Broadband Measurement Project and it would appear my speeds have fallen an average of 30% in the past 3 weeks. My bill certainly hasn't dropped 30% either.
I have analyzed nearly everything on my end, restarted my wifi router, made sure it's on the least congested 5GHz channel, do NOT use 2.4GHz, and looked at my SamKnows analysis, whose "box" is plugged directly into the TELUS Modem via ethernet for the readings.
Can anyone explain this sudden decrease? Or anyone else experienced this with TELUS over the last few weeks? I am located in the South Surrey (Morgan Heights) area as well where a very large fibre build-out has taken place over the last year.
I've attached my screen shots from Sam Knows as an analysis and posted this on the TELUS neighbourhood forums as well. Thanks everyone :)

[ALL] Telus buys AlarmForce west (connected home)
Bell bought the company AlarmForce https://www.alarmforce.com/ of 100,000 customers, then sold off the west portion (BC, AB, SK) of 39.000 customers to Telus.
Big data keeps growing, and for those who buy/rent/lease these products, always read your privacy agreements for the products. You may not always like what you read in it, if you understand doublespeak which is slightly better than many pages of legalese.
Protecting yourself locally is easy. Protecting your data that a company holds... You are so screwed, as politicians refuse to enforce punishments (actual prison time for Employees/Executives, and not a small fine) against these companies with what are sometimes glaringly obvious security holes for months/years.

TELUS announced that it has acquired all of the customers, assets and operations of AlarmForce Industries Inc. (AlarmForce) in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. AlarmForce is a Canadian leader in home security, monitoring and personal emergency response systems (PERS). BCE Inc. (Bell) announced its agreement to acquire AlarmForce in November 2017, and the deal formally closed today. TELUS has purchased the western operations of AlarmForce from Bell for approximately $66.5 million, representing a proportionate share of the value of the Bell transaction.
... In the coming months, TELUS will announce more details on its home security solutions as a component of its broadband enabled connected home strategy. .
http://business.financialpost.com/telecom/telus-enters-home-security-market-with-66-5m-deal-to-buy-bells-alarmforce-customers-in-the-west
Bell announced Friday it closed the $182-million purchase of AlarmForce, which has 100,000 customers across Canada. It simultaneously announced it sold 39,000 of these customers in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan to Telus for $66.5 million.
The deal, first announced in November, is relatively small for the communications giants – Bell alone has nearly 4 million internet customers east of Manitoba – but it’s a big strategic play as telecoms push for new product lines in increasingly connected homes. The telecoms are building expensive and high-capacity fibre networks, so they hope to pull in revenue from additional services such as security, connected devices like stoves and energy monitoring. http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/bce-announces-agreement-to-acquire-alarmforce-industries-655682093.html
... a transaction valued at approximately $166 million.
"Bell is excited to welcome the AlarmForce team as we pursue the significant growth and innovation opportunities represented by the connected home. It's a natural next step for Bell as one of Canada's most trusted brands in residential services," said George Cope, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada. "Leveraging Bell's network and service leadership and our place in millions of Canadian homes, we look forward to growing our nascent position in security and automation services to ensure Bell residential customers are at the leading edge of connected home innovation."
AlarmForce is one of the largest home and business security companies in Canada with more than 100,000 subscribers, and offers solutions such as intrusion alarms and smoke, flood and carbon monoxide detection; automation services including lighting, climate and lock control systems; and in-home and mobile medical alert systems. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bce-bell-alarmforce-1.4390847
Bell's major rival Rogers is already a player in the home security space through its Smart Home Monitoring service.

[BC] Upgraded from Telus15 to 25 with new T1200H router
I am sure this was discussed many times, but I can’t make it work.
Had it all working nicely with old dinosaur Thompson modem and DIR655 router. Could access my NAS from outside, but Internet speed was poor.
Talk to tech support and ended up with new T1200H and was told I can simply change it to modem only with bridging. Unfortunately it does not appear all that simple.
After few tries called support, but was told this is not supported by Telus technical support. Hmm.. when I ordered upgrade I clearly specified I would like to use my own router as I have all my network nicely configured and I am familiar with the router.
What I ended up after tech support guidance is disconnected Wifi, and router connected to #1 Ethernet outlet. Well that is all nice but T1200H is still dishing out IP address to my old router and old router has reserved IP address for most of my computers and NAS. Obviously I am unable to gain access to my NAS from outside. :(
I tried this before I called the support in different sequences, but no luck.
Connected my laptop to new T1200H Ethernet port#1. Changed password for access. In advanced setup under port bridging Port1 Bridge clicked “Enable” and “Apply. A note comes up to wait but after about 10 minutes one finds out its all frozen and nothing works till I reset it back with paper clip and start over with same result.
I also thought that since I enabled to bridge it no longer gives my laptop IP address so I connected T1200H to phone jack, My router to #1 Ethernet port, restart the T1200H, restart my old router DIR655 and no internet.
Can some good folk shine some light on what am I doing wrong, as after 6 hours and my wife nagging to stop messing with internet I am plain tired. All I want is to access my NAS from outside.

Mascon price increase March 2018 (Telus subsidiary)
As Mascon is a subsidiary (Jan 2017) of Telus, might as well post their prices increase.
Mascon was expanding with fibre to the home before the Telus buyout, and is still continuing to deploy fibre. Mascon still has coaxial areas and wireless areas. They also oversee some other coaxial companies (Mercuryspeed and YourLink) that were bought by Telus as well. Ukee Cable (Ucluet) was bought by Telus in Nov 2016 and eventually closed down.

Also, don’t forget to call us to disconnect your Mascon services and return any equipment.
A lot has happened over the last few years with Mascon and Tofino. It seems like only yesterday the fastest internet speed in town was 1 Mbps, streaming Netflix was impossible and most of the town was still on analog TV. Fast forward and nearly everyone in Tofino has access to 150 Mbps internet, analog TV was replaced with Full HD and streaming is now possible. We are very proud of this evolution and appreciate all the support we received along the way.
We’re confident that you’ll be happy with internet and Optik TV services on the TELUS PureFibre network.
Thank you all for your support.
Sincerely,
Andrew, Darren, Malcolm and the Mascon Team

Switching internet speed during 2 year term
I'm getting telus 75mbit up/down in a couple of weeks on a 2 yr contract. Am I allowed to go up to 150 up/down and then back down to 75mbit if I don't want the higher package when on the 2 year contract?

Internet 75 - Blocky video
Haven't noticed it before, but recently have noticed that video is occasionally blocky. It doesn't happen all the time, but in bursts. Using telus speedtest, I'm getting around 74-75 Mbps download. According to the modem, the attainable downstream rate is 84-85 Mbps. That doesn't seem like enough margin for two TVs. Does this indicate a configuration problem?

[BC] Disappointing service
I don't know if anyone else has had issues with Telus fiber installs, but I'm on the verge of switching over to another provider at this point.
Back in the beginning of January, I made a call to have fiber installed at my residence as it has been available for sometime now. The representative said they could have a person come out the next day to perform the install, which I found surprising. They then called back and said they had made an error and that it would be at least a week before I could have it installed.
As I hadn't expected it to be next day service anyways, I wasn't terribly upset. I told him to go ahead and schedule it, and I would be home that day for the install.
The next day, my family went to the dentist for normal check ups. My wife called my cell to tell me she needed me to come and bring some information for the dental plan, but when she tried to call the home phone it was out of service.
I brought her the information, and then after an hour of sitting on hold with Telus finally got a hold of a repair person who said that the order had gone through to cancel my home phone. She said with that when they rescheduled my Internet order, they forgot to cancel the phone move. As a result my phone is been taken out of service. Two hours later, my phone was back on.
The day of the install finally rolled around, and the man came and went and everything seem to be working fine for a while. Two weeks later, I'm watching TV and it suddenly freezes. I reset the Apple TV, with no success. I then noticed that my phone had also lost the Wi-Fi connection, so I reset it and saw that it wouldn't come back.
I went to reset the router (something I had needed to do three times since Install, which should have been a warning sign), but when it came back online it still showed a yellow light for the Internet connection. So then I looked up towards the fiber optic box, and saw that it had a 'fail' light illuminated. Multiple power recyclings did nothing to fix the problem.
I called repair, waited on hold for another 30 minutes, finally got a callback. The rep did some tests on their end then asked me to recycle the power again, which I did, and when I told him the red light was still on he said it was likely a failure of the Nokia receiver, which would need a repairman to visit. The closest appointment was two days away.
I find it difficult to believe that they couldn't send someone to replace a single box for two days. I'm also a little flabbergasted that this brand new piece of hardware failed after two weeks.
I used to work for Telus, and frankly, the service has deteriorated to the point where I'm thinking about moving to Shaw. That's saying a lot.
Is this common with TELUS now?

Fiber "FIFA" (?) vs Falcon (?)
So this is really 4th hand information I'm trying to make sense of.
A mother of my kid's friend overheard a discussion between her husband and his friend, who is a Telus technician of some sort. I overhear this mother chatting to someone else, recalling the conversation she thinks she heard.
So... granted... this is really weak "information" and I'm not trying to report anything, but rather i'm hoping this triggers something that someone could perhaps shed some light on. Doubtful, but Googling got me nowhere.
The gist is that we're currently on "FIFA" ("not the soccer thing", she says) and paying higher rates for Fiber, but in "3 to 4 months" they'll be switching to "Falcon", and supposedly "rates will be dropping across the board for everyone". She said FIFA was an acronym that started with Fiber and ended with Association, but she couldn't remember the rest. She specifically says the Telus guy said this is inside stuff that's not supposed to get out, "so don't tell anyone".
Does that ring a bell for anyone? The only reason I don't think it is total BS, is why would a couple of soccer mom's be talking about Fiber infrastructure unless it really was something she heard? It came up because the other was complaining about a Telus door-to-door salesman. Also, the ONLY fruit I got from Google was a reference to "Project Falcon" in Vancouver, which is Telus' fiber infrastructure upgrades in that area. But it was unclear if that's upgrading to what all Telus Fiber customers already have, or if it is indeed something even better.
↧
Fibre availability map
Telus used to have regional maps with progress build/roll out with future dates of areas to come online.
Any one know if Telus is sill publishing this info?

WEB6000Q - Wifi Extender - has to be via Etherrnet
So this extender has to be connected to T3200M via Ethernet, cannot be connected witlessly? I am missing the point of having it side by side where both show same speeds, whats exactly is the extension for?
↧
↧
Are these modem line stats "normal"?
The connection is 75 Mbps bonded.
I'm wondering specifically about the following:
Retrains
Loss of Signal Link Failure
Unavailable Seconds
Near End CRC Errors
Near End RS FEC
I had Telus at my home to investigate some issues on one of the lines, specifically, a bunch of intermittent (bursty) CRC errors on line 2. After Telus left, there were no retrains and no CRC errors for a few days, then a "burst" of two retrains with accompanying CRC errors. Those counters have been steady. The FEC errors have been creeping up steadily. They seem to be independent of the retrains and CRC errors. My home is quite far from the DSLAM.

[AB] Telus 150 Monthly Transfer Cap
I'm getting Telus 150 installed today and I'm a bit curious to hear what everyone else has to say about the monthly transfer cap of 1TB.
While ordering my new internet, the Telus rep on the phone told me Telus would contact me regarding overages before charging, is this true?
For the time being, I don't see myself regularly exceeding 1TB, but it could happen so I want to make sure I'm not in for any surprises.
On a side note, I've also heard from a coworker that Telus doesn't actually enforce/charge for overage.
