v1000h max number of 16 wifi devices?

Hi, first post here. I've done a search but can't find any reference to this, possibly because most users don't generally have 12 people in their houses. My friend who runs snowboarding tours currently has 12 people in the house she rents from us, and of course they have a multiplicity of devices. She switched to Optik TV before the snow season started and not many in the house. The setup is VDSL jnto the V1000H via telephone line input, 2 STBs connected to 2 of the 4 Actiontec LAN ports. The issue she has is that all the occupants have at least a cellphone, and most have another wifi device. We have discovered that the Actiontec will only accept connections from a maximum of 16 wifi devices, which seems very restrictive and is a total nuisance to all users. The actiontec is setup with the Telus default settings. I have checked the DHCP address range (using the root password for the .57 firmware) and it is set at 192.168.1.64 - .253. The connected wifi devices are allocated ip addresses throughout that range. I am wondering if any of the experts on the Actiontec can shed any light as to why it will only allow 16 wifi devices to connect simultaneously, and/or suggest any way around it, rather than trying to subvert the Telus restricions on this devices home networking capabilities. I'm a former Australian telecommunications networking researcher, and am surprised that a telco would force such a technically primitive and restricted piece of equipment on its customers, with no apparent means to implement ones own technically competent home networking solution for the many problems these restrictions can present to relatively common issues. Any insights would be much appreciated.
