Some of you know I use an ALU or bridged Actiontec with a Netgear WNDR4000 router. This setup works perfectly, save for the WLAN multicast flooding (oh well.)
I've tried a couple of AC routers to replace the WNDR4000, as I have a 2013 MacBook Air that has 802.11ac.
So far, here's what has happened.
Asus RT-AC66U
Works fine with 1 stream. Once you invoke the 2nd stream (record or watch another channel) the entire network dies. This is on stock, Merlin and DD-WRT. Given that I have multiple STBs in my place, this doesn't work. I've returned this router.
Netgear Nighthawk R7000
You'd think it'd be just a simple swap and away you go. Nope.
Multicast is pretty random on here. Will cut out after tuning to a channel for 10 seconds, switching back and forth will have it work again for a few minutes. This is with the same IGMP/RIP settings as the WNDR4000.
I'm hoping that the next firmware update fixes it for the Nighthawk.
Anyone have any success using Optik with an Asus RT-N66U or a Netgear R6300? Or any other ideas?
