Bell bought the company AlarmForce https://www.alarmforce.com/ of 100,000 customers, then sold off the west portion (BC, AB, SK) of 39.000 customers to Telus. Big data keeps growing, and for those who buy/rent/lease these products, always read your privacy agreements for the products. You may not always like what you read in it, if you understand doublespeak which is slightly better than many pages of legalese. Protecting yourself locally is easy. Protecting your data that a company holds... You are so screwed, as politicians refuse to enforce punishments (actual prison time for Employees/Executives, and not a small fine) against these companies with what are sometimes glaringly obvious security holes for months/years. https://www.telus.com/en/about/news-and-events/media-releases/telus-acquires-alarmforce-operations-in-western-canada-and-welcomes-39000-alarmforce-customers-in-bc-alberta-and-saskatchewan TELUS announced that it has acquired all of the customers, assets and operations of AlarmForce Industries Inc. (AlarmForce) in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. AlarmForce is a Canadian leader in home security, monitoring and personal emergency response systems (PERS). BCE Inc. (Bell) announced its agreement to acquire AlarmForce in November 2017, and the deal formally closed today. TELUS has purchased the western operations of AlarmForce from Bell for approximately $66.5 million, representing a proportionate share of the value of the Bell transaction. ... In the coming months, TELUS will announce more details on its home security solutions as a component of its broadband enabled connected home strategy. . http://business.financialpost.com/telecom/telus-enters-home-security-market-with-66-5m-deal-to-buy-bells-alarmforce-customers-in-the-west Bell announced Friday it closed the $182-million purchase of AlarmForce, which has 100,000 customers across Canada. It simultaneously announced it sold 39,000 of these customers in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan to Telus for $66.5 million. The deal, first announced in November, is relatively small for the communications giants – Bell alone has nearly 4 million internet customers east of Manitoba – but it’s a big strategic play as telecoms push for new product lines in increasingly connected homes. The telecoms are building expensive and high-capacity fibre networks, so they hope to pull in revenue from additional services such as security, connected devices like stoves and energy monitoring. http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/bce-announces-agreement-to-acquire-alarmforce-industries-655682093.html ... a transaction valued at approximately $166 million. "Bell is excited to welcome the AlarmForce team as we pursue the significant growth and innovation opportunities represented by the connected home. It's a natural next step for Bell as one of Canada's most trusted brands in residential services," said George Cope, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada. "Leveraging Bell's network and service leadership and our place in millions of Canadian homes, we look forward to growing our nascent position in security and automation services to ensure Bell residential customers are at the leading edge of connected home innovation." AlarmForce is one of the largest home and business security companies in Canada with more than 100,000 subscribers, and offers solutions such as intrusion alarms and smoke, flood and carbon monoxide detection; automation services including lighting, climate and lock control systems; and in-home and mobile medical alert systems. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bce-bell-alarmforce-1.4390847 Bell's major rival Rogers is already a player in the home security space through its Smart Home Monitoring service.
