i know i'm asking quite a different function but for my purposes i was wondering if WDS would work better? I currently have this setup in order to extend my internet to a detached outdoor garage:
V1000h that provides telus internet (newest firmware) -> LAN port wired to a second V1000h's WAN port on bridge mode (older firmware) -> wireless bridge from the 2nd v1000h to another Router on DD-WRT wireless repeater mode (receives the v1000h connection and broadcasts another SSID -> wireless devices connected
The reason I have it like this is because the original location of the v1000h that telus installed isn't able to provide good signal to certain areas of the house. The second v1000h is basically connected via a long network cable to be in a more optimal position, and then using it to broadcast a wireless signal to an outdoor garage which has a wireless repeater to receive and extend the network.
*yes I have two v1000h's as someone gave me their v1000h that they didnt need.
my question is, is there a more simpler way to do this? would upgrading the older v1000h firmware to the new one and using WDS help?
right now, it mostly works OK and i believe the throughput is not reduced since my plan is 25mbps and my wireless devices at the end ultimately gets about 15-17 mbps. but sometimes the connection seems abit jumpy and my downloads would sometimes stop for 1-2 seconds and then continue.
