Hello and thanks in advance for the help
I play games online competitively and recently there have been some ddos attacks on the community.
I know that reddit isn't the best source nor is it empirical proof that I was under a ddos attack but I didn't have wireshark open/don't have tech prowess to provide proof. Hopefully a few hundred replies in threads about players getting ddos'd is enough proof even if it is just on reddit.

(I can post additional links/twitter discussion that suggests ddos + an anecdote about how 4-5 teams had 1-2 players unable to access the internet for the duration of a match and then their internet magically comes back after).
I have vpn security up now/secured how the attacker originally got my ip (most likely skype/steam), but I've been unable to change my IP. Basically it doesn't matter what I have if the perpetrator is just able to directly hit my IP.
Basically I'm wondering if there's an easier way to change my IP than releasing and keeping the router off for 8 hours and hoping that someone else takes my old IP. I've called Telus tech support for probably 2.25 hours total and they've had me try factory resetting the modem, turning it off for 30 minutes/1hour/4 hours and are now suggesting I turn it off for 8 hours. I mean I'll try it tonight, but I'm really hoping that there is a more reliable solution to ip changing.
For reference: I have an actiontec V1000H on a dynamic connection. I need my public IP address changed (the one you get when you google "what is my ip").
Please note: I've tried the obvious stuff like release/renew/looking for a mac address to change to force a new ip (a friend who is a bit better technically than me said after looking through the modem settings that he thinks telus has firmware to prevent users from changing their router mac address) + I was told on the phone by TELUS that changing the mac address would not help with an ip change. The telus technician also stated that the ONLY way to change my IP was by turning the modem off for a long time (leash range 4 hours) and that he couldn't do anything to help. I'm a bit hesitant in listening to that because all my other team mates (although they're american) simply called their isp and asked them to change their IP and it was easily done, hence this post.
thank you
tl;dr: need ip changed on telus actiontec V1000H because ddos
