Once upon a time, a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-n-g time ago (actually, just last week), my messages (regular e-mails, plus a mailing list I subscribe to that also arrives in my regular e-mail) would download reasonably quickly. Most messages are around 3-4k each, and I would get 4-5 per second (I'm "only" on the 6Mb plan), with the Usenet groups I also subscribe to arriving at about the same speed.
For the last several days, e-mails have been considerably slower (approaching 1 second each), except for one from my brother, which once it got "queued up", the whole 900k just flew down the wire. Curiously, Usenet messages arrive at about the same speed as before.
And before you ask, I see the same "slowdown" using OE, Popcorn, and Opera, as well as Seamonkey on a Live-CD Linux box across the room, AND the same if checking Mom's e-mail list using any of the same programs or computers (haven't tried from her house yet).
Are my e-mails being routed through India first, then Russia, Chile, Australia, Antarctica, Korea, France, then bounced off the moon before they get to me?
blip..........blip.........blip.........blip.........blip vs blipblipblipblipblip.
Something's not quite right.
