[BC] Email setup for sending from outside of Telus network

I was helping someone configure their email yesterday. We ended up calling Telus to get the server settings but the csr claimed that smtp has to be on port 25 and otherwise we have to use outgoing server from whoever is the internet connection provider at the time (when traveling). I explained that it's not practical to try to change outgoing server everytime we move to a different wifi network (ie from Starbucks to MacDonald etc). But he insisted that that's the way it is and that's it. He was also condescending with a clear hint of enjoying my pain. I finally gave up. So does someone have the settings that can be used when traveling and with mobile devices like laptops, tablets, smart phones etc.? Telus website is also only listing port 25.
