I had residential fibre for years now, and very happy with it. I believe a small business connection is required for obtaining a static IP address. I requested a call back from a SB rep. We agreed on a price for 3 years: for 1G ($105/mo) + $12/mo for 5 static IP addresses. I was told that a tech visit was required, and the tech will "move" the connection to the business side at that time, with little or no downtime required. I provided some info via email, and was told that my new account would be opened, and to stand-by for updates. This was 9 days ago. :uhh: I emailed the rep back 5 days ago for updates, and never heard back.
So today I opened an online chat to a second business rep who:
1 - could not tell me what happened to my previous call (maybe previous rep was abducted by aliens)?
2 - told me that I'd need to cancel my residential line before a business line could be requested (because they only deal with "new" connections)
I told them that this was not good, as I cannot risk being without any connectivity, while waiting for "business" tech to show up, and then received a vague reassurance about no downtime, which contradicted the previous statement about me needing to cancel my existing connection in advance, so now I'm completely confused :-)
I'd be happy even with an overlap of a month of two for residential and business (paying for both): first add a new line, then after everything has been tested remove the "old" residential connection. Also, I do not need wi-fi as I have my own wi-fi equipment and router, so I'm now even sure why replacing "all the hardware" would be necessary, my existing nokia ONT can sure handle 1G speed, and I'm not even using the T3200 router.
