I've just signed up for Telus Fibre Internet and Optik TV but had a few questions and was hoping for some clarification. Juts some background...
- We live in a brand new house (2 years old)
- The neighborhood is brand new (less than 3 years old)
- My entire house is wired with Cat6 cable...each device that Telus would give me would be placed very close to a Ethernet port
My preference would be to use my own personal router that has dd-wrt. This has the functionality that I'm looking for (static DHCP assignment, QoS, etc.) and I'm pretty sure the router that Telus provides doesn't come with this. Is there anything special I need to do because I am getting Fibre internet and TV? I've noticed a number of posts saying you need to enable certain things on the router because of multicast floods but it seems like that's mainly for wireless. I don't plan on running any Telus devices on wireless and will rely on my own routers for wireless connectivity.
I guess none of this matters if the router that Telus provides has advanced functionality but I'm guessing it doesn't.
