Is anyone else having this problem? For the last five years my Telus internet, just over the phone line, has worked great. Now, suddenly, not so much.
Youtube videos at 360p, websites that show movies, all are slow to load, the youtube videos are taking forever to buffer, the movies play like they only have one in five frames so it's a very jerky motion and they often just freeze up. These are not 720p or 1080p either. Same websites, same movies, only now they don't play like normal.
Naturally, when I called the help desk, their first suggestion was that I 'needed to upgrade my service'. Well of course - when in doubt, try the upsell. Except that since it's the same old sites I'm going to and nothing has changed, and none of them are in HD, why do I need to upgrade? I got a new computer last year with a quad-core processor and 12 GB of RAM, and for anything else, like gaming, it runs at top speed - it's only the internet that does this, and only for the last couple of months. As you might imagine, I don't want the upsell presented as the solution (and it shouldn't be, since as I said nothing else has changed), but if I did get the higher package, and it keeps on happening I'll have to look elsewhere for an ISP.
You wanted everybody to scale back their usage, and provided a usage monitor for that purpose, and I dutifully scaled it back, but the Internet feed keeps getting worse. The price keeps going up, but the quality keeps going down. Anybody know what's happening? WHAT is choking up the bandwidth?
