TELUS router on DMZ

$

So right now my set up is the DSL modem (ALU), connected to a 5-port switch. One line goes to the DLink router, and the other line goes to my smoothwall box. On my smoothwall box, I can set up an "orange" interface (aka DMZ). Has anyone successfully connected the TELUS equipment to the DMZ on their own router, or does the TELUS equipment need to be either "first in line" or directly connected to the modem (via switch)? -- -= It's just random chance that I hit the keyboard in such a way that my responses make sense =-

After Getting DSL from telus my services keep getting slower and slower. Seems like a personal attack on me. I had shaw, and kicked off the network. Seems like there is always petty bickering and some kind of childish attitude going on. Why is it that no matter what the service I have I seem to keep connecting to this same bad behavior. [att=1] This is what I am paying 52 Bucks a month for with no alternatives and when I choose shaw the attitude there is just pathetic and egos seem to be in play. You would think they would want to retain there customer base not have them leave. All around its like pathetic vs pathetic and no one seems to be able to man up and provide a system thats " DIRECT " no port blocking and trying to FORCE people to use there email services gee guys I wonder why makes it so much easier to keep tabs on communications. Overall I find living in a area with no competition and two children to pick from a very unsettling choice.

Bridging mode and latest firmware 31.30L.57

A question for those using the Actiontec V1000H with the latest 31.30L.57 firmware and also bridging mode: is there a problem in keeping the bridging mode? I had read reports of others on this firmware that changed things to bridging mode but then complaining that it would revert back on its own. Is this true? I am currently still on the 31.30L.55 firmware.

[BC] TELUS Optik TV/Internet via Fibre (GPON)

I live in a building where TELUS has Fibre-to-the-Suite, therefore (forgive my ignorance) I have the Alcatel Lucent box in my Utility Box, along with the battery backup and the Actiontec router. It looks to me that the Alcatel Lucent box is proving an ethernet connection out of port one to the Actiontec router. The Optik TV STB's are then connected to port 1/2 of the Actiontec modem/router. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Actiontec merely acting as a router because of the Alcatel Lucent box providing the connection to TELUS' network? If so, am I able to connect the 2 STB's to the Lucent equipment either directly or through a gigabit switch and then use my ASUS RT-N56U router as my soon to be Optik 50 internet router via one of the other free ports on the Alcatel Lucent equipment? Thanks!

How do I get 1SD/3HD streams?

$

I'm getting mixed info from Telus. They had tech support check my line and said that I can get 1SD/3HD streams. Then I get forwarded to Customer Care and she did some checking and said the area profile only allows 1SD/2HD streams and the tool she is using can't select it. She also said I'm at Turbo 25 since I have the Optik TV. Is it possible she just doesn't have access (at her level) to the right tool to change the setting? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Actiontec V1000H CFW Tutorial

First time writing a tutorial and I'm bored so let's do it. Please STICKY this for easy forum access. So I find the old tutorial somewhere on this forum out of date for downgrading/upgrading to 1.30L.48 custom firmware. Here is how I upgraded my V1000H from newer firmwares. Before you start you should have: V1000H CFW http://blog.doodlespark.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Actiontec_V1000H_31.30L.48-TELUS-1302125540.1.img.zip or http://www.filedropper.com/actiontecv1000h3130l48-telus-13021255401img 1. Log into your V1000H using Tech account. The newest firmwares I've found have restricted access to the firmware uploading page for regular/admin user accounts. Tech_username: tech password: Sorry forum rules prohibit me from posting but here's a link ;) http://keithbalomben.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/telus-actiontec-v1000h-hacks-and-information/ Use your browser's Find feature and type in Technician and you'll find it. 2. Go to Advanced Setup > Upgrade Firmware and then upload the .img file you saved and unzipped to your hard drive. DO THIS WIRED 3. Wait for the modem to reboot. Be safe and take a 5min'er. 4. From there you should be good to go. Log back into your router and enjoy the unlocked options. Admin account is fine here. You will NOT have to worry about Telus upgrading you to the latest firmware after this, it has been disabled. So pretty much why we do this (for the majority anyways) is for the bridging option so we can use our own 3rd party routers that just blow this piece of sh1t out the window. You know, routers with Tomato, DD-WRT, Open, etc. ;) Anyways the bridging option can be found in Advanced Setup > WAN IP Addressing > Select the ISP protocol below. > and set it to RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging I hope this tutorial helped even though it was amature written. If you already plan to use this firmware it's pretty safe to assume that you know what you're doing. If you brick your router or something f@cks up, I'm not responsible for your actions. Thank you everyone. Use these steps if you're on an older firmware. (I don't know the numbers just try this if the above steps don't work) Old tutorial: 1. Download the Firmware from here (my links above)**edited 2. Extract the files using WinRAR or similar software 3. Next go to http://192.168.1.254/utilities_upgradefirmware.html?isie=0 4. Click choose file and locate the extracted file 5. The updater then will upload the file to the router. Don’t do this wirelessly to ensure the upload does not get interrupted. Do not navigate away from current page or the tab that pops up afterwards. 6. A reboot is required and it will prompt for one. Source of the old tutorial is: http://blog.doodlespark.ca/telus-actiontec-v1000h-firmware

[AB] Wireless speeds suddenly dip

Hello, recently (as in the last 2 days) I have noticed a significant dip in my wireless network speeds. Before this I was getting around 5.71 mbps and now today I am getting a steady 0.63 mbps. If I hook my laptop up to an ethernet cable I get my 5.71 speeds again. Nothing has changed, nothing including: -No new devices added -No new location -No internal settings changed -No router changed -No ISP changes -No other changes In other words there is no difference between today and two days ago and yet I have a near halt in my wireless speeds. I have done the following to correct this: -Restarted router -Restarted laptop -Shut down all other devices on the internet -Contacted my ISP and answered a boatload of useless questions and repeated these answers in many different ways to them Here is more information that may be of use: Wireless Card - Killer Wireless-N 1202 Router - Siemens Gigaset SE567 ISP - TELUS PS. Thank you for any solutions towards this problem and I apologize for the amount of sarcasm in this post but I am really frustrated with TELUS at the moment

Question for Expert. Can one get a Tablet that...?

One can also use wired ? Was looking at Microsofts 'Surface' with its key board . Wondered if we will ever have a dual model wireless plus wired? This could then replace ones laptop. They are so light and handy to travel around with. With the 'Tablets at the moment they are Wi Fi plus data which would belong to the Mobility section of Telus only . Do you think for private use the smart phones and Tablets will replace the laptops ? The use of the desktops and laps will only be used for business purposes?

[BC] Ongoing problems with my line

I spoke to someone at telus today for like over 2 hours trying to get this solved. She said that she works on the lines herself. I was amazed at the specific technical knowledge she gave me regarding the telus network infastructure and the infospace system. Any way my line is getting better oh so slightly heres a speedtest She went on to tell me specific information about the boards in the ALPHA box system and the wiring configurations etc. How to splice a fiber line and crucial key components on the telus network. If anyone wants to know her name pm me. Like I said this is a big improvement to my downstream channel it was .20% megabytes not like .70% megabytes which is way better. I have been pricing fibre to the home from my supplier that works a quaker oatmeal in richmond and he is currently preparing me a quote.

Would it be possible that the Residence internet only area of ISP's will become obsolete in the future due to the upsurge of tablets and smartphones being wireless? There again in the future could it be possible that evenTV could go wireless for everyone.? Hope this is on the correct page this time moderator?

What modem sync rate is required for HS 50?

For y'all who have been upgraded to HS 50, what modem sync rate were you getting before you got upgraded? My line was borderline for HS 25 so I'm wondering if it's good enough. The ALU is saying 61264 down and 11590 up. Is that enough?

High Speed 50/Optik 50 FAQs

$

Just to save people some time calling TELUS, I've put together the following FAQ to answer any questions you may have about the new service. ** the speeds are off the top of my head, I'll update them if they are wrong, but those are what I remember High Speed 50 Speeds - 45.0 to 50.0Mb/s down, 5.0 to 10.0Mb/s up - test this on wired, don't call in once you get it stating that you're not getting 50Mb/s on wireless) Optik 50 Speeds - 25.0 to 50.0Mb/s down, 5.0 to 10.0Mb/s up (fair warning, that's what I recall initially, but seeing on the TELUS site now if I change my service, it just says Up to 50.0Mb/s down - again, see note above regarding testing this speed - DSL ONLY depending on your train rate, there's enough overhead to offset watching all streams while using your internet for it to not be adversely affected (eg. I train at ~73Mb/s, if I watch all TV at once [3HD + 1SD] it would leave me 73Mb/s - (3x 6.0) - 3.0 = ~52.0Mb/s, where as before, if you were on Optik 25, you would see speed loss once you invoked a 2nd HD or SD stream (33.304Mb/s - 25.0Mb/s = 8.3Mb/s = less than 2 streams, so the 25.0-50.0 range is pretty generous, but again, that depends on what you train at Cost - $75.00/month, less any bundle discounts you receive. Bandwidth Cap (either plan) - 500.0GB/month As of Feb 1, 2013, this will change to 250.0GB/month. :( (Don't shoot the messenger. I'm not happy about this either, however, TELUS may change their minds. In all honesty, I thought for HS/Optik 50 that we would get 1.0TB of bandwidth. Woe is me... Requirements If you're on ETTS or GPON, stop, advance to go, collect $200, and be happy that you qualify automatically for the new service. Call and book it. If you're on copper (ie. DSL) things are a bit trickier. TELUS will prioritize service on a single line. If that single line can sustain the necessary train rates (~52-55Mb/s down, ~10-12Mb/s up) then see the Single DSL Line section. If not, then jump to the loop bonding section. Single DSL Line - officially, you will require an Actiontec V1000H or V2000H (bonding only,) however, I get Optik 50 working fine on my ALU + Netgear setup. If you don't have one of these gateways, one will be provided to you during install. - for those who can sustain those speeds on the one line, TELUS will book a field tech, however, it may just require a software order (ie. flip a switch.) However, if it's not a software order, a tech will come to your place if you require an Actiontec, or a VDSL POTS splitter (if you were on an ADSL profile prior to the upgrade.) - if you call in for this and TELUS says no, ask what the maximum 17a profile speed is. This must be at least the numbers listed above. Loop Bonding - if your one line (clearance) can not sustain the train rates required above, if you have a second clearance to your place, we may be able to bond your lines to achieve that. - generally, you'll only have a second clearance to your place if you live in a house. Most condos and apartment buildings don't have a physical second line going in. If you're not in a house, you most likely won't be able to get bonding, short of getting another line run to your unit/suite. - as of Dec 1, 2012, loop bonding is only available in Edmonton, Alberta or Prince George, British Columbia. Sorry for those who don't live in either city, however, this rollout will change. - loop bonding doesn't guarantee HS/Optik 50, but will guarantee HS/Optik 25 (3HD/1SD/25,) those on 2HD/1SD/15 or 1HD/2SD/15 rejoice. - loop bonding for HS 25 requires minimum ~25-27Mb/s down and ~2.5-3.0Mb/s up (train rate.) - loop bonding for Optik 25 requires minumum ~33Mb/s down and 2.5-3.0Mb/s up (train rate.) - loop bonding requires a technician visit and you can only use an Actiontec V2000H. - if you call in for this and TELUS says no, ask what the maximum 8b profile speed is (again, only if you're in Edmonton or Prince George. If you're not and you call in for bonding, I will be a sad red panda.) The max 8b profile speed will dictate if you can get HS/Optik 25 or 50. That's all I think we need for now. I'll add more to this, and update this thread once Loop Bonding is out in more communities, in addition to adding new info and fixing errata. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications.

[AB] Question Regarding Telus Internet and Optik Internet

Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone know the difference between the two? I have Optik TV with 2HD/1SD and 15Mpbs line and want to upgrade to the High Speed Turbo 25 and 3HD/1SD. If I get upgraded to 3HD/1SD does that mean that I'll automatically get High Speed Turbo 25 or are they separate from one another and I would have to ask for both upgrades?

Telus ADSL keeps timing out. Tech support says nothing wrong

MY Telus ADSL keeps dropping me from games, teamspeak, msn, ect. Online games drop me saying "connection timed out". Everything reconnects after about 20 seconds. All lights on the modem (Zyxel vsg1432) stay on during this. It happens seemingly at random could be 20 minutes or an hour, or 5 minutes. Because of this my online games are unplayable. Talked to tech support 2 nights in a row, and they can't find anything wrong, and would not offer to send a tech out. 5 days ago a telus installer came and installed optic TV in my neighbors suite upstairs. I live in the lower suite of a house. During the install he accidently cut my ADSL wires, and i had to go outside and make him put it back. He did not realize what he did. Ever since then this problem has been happening. I don't know if its related, but tech support doesn't seem to think so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am so close to just cancelling my telus account. Please help.

[BC] TELUS High Speed Turbo 25 Usage being reduced 50%

I have TELUS High Speed Turbo 25 My e-mail 'bill ready for payment' notice today included the usual link for messages/changes. Here's what it said. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Important information for TELUS clients Effective Feb. 1, 2013, the download/upload usage included with your TELUS High Speed Internet plan will be: High Speed Lite – 15 GB/month High Speed – 100 GB/month High Speed Turbo – 150 GB/month High Speed Turbo 25 – 250 GB/month ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here is the link: http://telus.com/content/home-phone/notices.jsp They are reducing my High Speed Turbo 25 from 500 GB/month to 250 GB/month. That's a 50% reduction in download/upload usage for the same price. Effective less than two months from now. Without even the courtesy of an explanation. That's not customer service. That's arrogance. Not a peep on the TELUS website. They are still advertising the High Speed Turbo 25 as: 'Download/Upload Usage - 500 GB/month' I called TELUS up. The girl at first didn't know anything about it. Then she said something about it being more in line with the current internet market. Then she said that people were downloading illegal movies. Then she compared it to the price of gas changing at gas stations. WOW (maybe she was winging it) TELUS is obviously trying to sneak this one in and hoping that nobody will notice. I use less than 10% of the 500 GB/month I am entitled to but sneaking in a 50% reduction with no explaination is simply wrong.

TELUS will half download/upload limits for all customers.

Discussion on microsoft cloud tv, mediaroom grim?

$

Hello, Was hoping to spark up a discussion about optik tv. Also would be great to hear your thoughts as well on the subject. Firstly, telus launches an ondemand service, and months later microsoft decides to launch there own on demand service through xbox live. Strange move, especially when they are competing products to microsoft's mediaroom clients. Now recently microsoft secretly is working on a new project that deals with tv in the cloud "named cloud tv?". You can search up on google about that if you want additional info. Seems that resources and new positions in the entertainment business unit of microsoft are being allocated to this new product. It makes you question, if they decide to launch their own cloud tv product that is based on mediaroom, what does that mean for current media room clients like telus, at&t etc. I've also heard rumors from industry members that mediaroom may not receive further code upgrades with features that were promised like OTT capabilities that at&t and telus have been waiting for. Mediaroom 3.0 & 4.0 may not see daylight. Would appear mediaroom may stay at 2.x with updates to keep things going and fixes. Hopefully a telus rep can comment in this. I think this is a great discussion to start, what are your thoughts as to microsoft's move coming soon in 2013 to cloud tv, and what does that mean for the future of mediaroom deployed at telus and at&t.
