[BC] At TELUS, we're all frogs boiling in water

. Yesterday I received my e.bill notification from TELUS. 'Subject: Your monthly TELUS e.Bill is ready' Beside the email message was a graphic of a frog squatting on top of a TELUS bill. _____ ' If you place a frog in boiling water, it will jump right back out. But if you put the frog in cold water and heat it gradually, it will sit there and slowly roast alive.' (from Wikipedia) 'The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.' 'Telus Download Limits Reduced, Upsetting Home Internet Service Customers' http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/05/telus-download-limits-reduced_n_2245422.html TELUS had to respond. 'Telus senior communications manager Shawn Hall told The Huffington Post the changes are being put in place "to better manage internet investment," and added the company’s bandwidth caps are high enough that even the heaviest bandwidth users "have more than enough."' 'Hall said that, unlike some other internet providers, Telus doesn’t actually charge customers overage fees for exceeding their caps. Users who exceed their caps are encouraged to switch to a higher service plan.' My question to TELUS at the time was if they don't "charge customers overage fees for exceeding their caps", then why take a big PR hit by reducing the cap by 50%. We now have our answer. Usage based billing starts on June 1, 2014, just 16 short months after the 50% reduction in usage. Put the frog in cold water and heat it gradually, it will sit there and slowly roast alive.
