Sorry for the long post but thank you those willing to read and able to help :-)
Have multiple family members that want to move to packages from Telus to cover TV,Internet,Phone. But have some questions I have been unable to really get properly answered from either of my local Telus stores. Hoping there is still some techs on this site and people that have been doing these types of moves recently as it has been many years for me as the family and friends techie person. None are under any contracts for a long time so no issue changing that we can deal with.
1. What is a few possible key timing issues of switch over/things I should watch out for when getting the order going like porting over say the home phone #, matching up new service with cancelling of Rogers [not including the equipment changes or email as that is already being planned for - as seen in below question(s) ]
2. Is there the ability to arrange pro-rated payment or such so that future payments can be then setup to be always end or middle of the month to make bill paying easier for seniors for example that like to process manually and do multiple at a time? (and this way do the transfer at a better time than wait for current services to expire)
3. Has anyone heard if the AppleTV app has 4K support yet or getting it soon? Is the quality generally OK at 1080P at least?
- I have family that would rather use owned devices over rental equipment that is not actually as useful.
- No answer found on the Telus forum etc. yet. Rather useless help site really as no easy general topic browser etc. and it looks like some good threads that WERE helpful to people asking questions that can benefit consumers are getting hidden if Telus management does not want people to know certain issues. (found on archive sites why)
4. What is the FULL difference between the $20 home phone and the $30 home phone plan. The website does not list ALL specifics even though it mentions more of course for the latter. Like is there some long distance difference or just party lines etc.
5. What internet equipment do you get? If going to use Telus network/wifi gear instead of just hooking up the ONT to a good router (as in one case it is upgrade time and I would rather simplify the need for support 'from me')
5a.- do you only get a single WiFi Modem with the 250Mb internet or do you get the WiFi modem and 1 or 2 extenders by default? Do you get better if you go with a higher speed even if they do not need?
5b. - if needing rent at least 1 extender does that WiFi Plus option cost $10 PER extender per month or $10 for up to say 3 extenders TOTAL each month (does a Telus tech have to confirm what I need?). I am pretty sure I will need at least one at each house especially if the TV's use wireless instead of me being forced to run some new CAT6 to each room with new wall plates and keystones (TV's currently going through RG6 and would rather NOT use)
5c.- do you get only 2.4 & 5Ghz band capable hardware or does Telus only send out the 3 band 2.4/5/6Ghz WiFi 6E gear now.
5d. - does the Telus WiFi equipment support multiple SSID's? At least a primary and a guest Wifi that is running in an isolated mode from the primary network.
6. IF I was to end up running a good NON-Telus router connected to the ONT (as is already with 2 family houses) due to specific needs...... seeing as the Telus TV hardware appears to just be a modified google android TV product....
6b. Can that box still run through whatever WiFi I connect it to or Ethernet wire I run to it since everything just looks like internet devices running TV APPS now 'not' direct Telus Network IP'd special devices?
6c. Any chance of a monthly discount if NOT using any Telus hardware beyond the ONT for internet?
7. What is the known minimum version of iphone to run TelusTV or required apps to USE the new TV/Internet systems. (Example iphone 6s IOS 15 be OK to do the basics or need at least a 12 running IOS 16+?
8. Last one I can think of. Is it better to order ONLINE especially if they already have an account due to an already existing service OR BETTER to go to the stores or phone and set things up. If ordering online is there the option of picking up the needed equipment from a local store to speed things up or more likely to get better equipment waiting a couple days for the delivery when just installing myself?
Once again I thank everyone and hope this can help others in the same situations.
