Manually changing Wi-Fi channels on Telus Modem/Router

I'm currently with Shaw (Rogers) and I'm left incredibly frustrated. About 4 years ago, before the pandemic, Shaw decided to cripple the selection of Wi-Fi channels for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz by blocking access within the modem's portal. Now, it's read-only. Unfortunately, given our area and condo complex, Wi-Fi channels are extremely congested. These router/modems, when set to auto, rarely change channels and seem to be intentionally programmed to switch between the common channels like 1, 6, 11, etc. for 2.4Ghz. My concern, though, is with the higher speeds available with 5Ghz. After spending a great deal of time determining the best of the worst channels, 157 is the best for me, as also proven by Android Wi-Fi analysis apps. Normally, calling into your ISP (assuming they know what you're talking about—most don't), they will change the channel on their side. Lately, there seems to be a bug or new limitation with the Technicolor XB7 modem where despite the provider manually changing the channel on their end, it defaults within a few hours back to Auto. I was wondering if Telus has this restriction as well? It's simply not feasible or practical to purchase a router just to simply manually change the Wi-Fi channels via bridging the modem.
