My parents are just outside of a town which is all purefiber now. A few years ago I tried to get them connected to Teksavvy, but Tek discovered that there was no loop at the CO: Telus had run fibre out to a box somewhere closer to my parents place and that's where the copper phone line ended (a test indicated that the copper line was at most 1.5km long). A call to Telus confirmed that, and I was told that they would be offering DSL out there within the year.
Well Telus never did get back to us on that, so I reached out to them again. I was told there was no plan to offer any kind of wired internet access. I don't know if that is true or the rep just couldn't figure out what to do with the rural address.
So question #1 is, given that the reps probably don't know how to deal with rural addresses, how do I talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about?
Question #2, I saw a green Telus pillar/box (photo above) not 400m down the road. It wasn't there a few years ago. What is it and what might it indicate about service?
