For the longest time, I was told if I wanted to manually assign an IP to a PC/device, I need to assign an IP address that's outside from the default e.g in this case from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. So, to manually assign an IP to my Amazon FireTV, I would choose something like 192.168.1.270 (as long as it's not within 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.270).
I got a new Asus router yesterday and when configuring manual IP assignment, the Asus router is assigning an IP that's within the default (192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254) in this case the IP address that's assigned to my Amazon FireTV is 192.168.1.201, is this supposed to be in this way? (I thought it's should be something 192.168.1.255 or higher, no?)
Someone please educate me, what's the purpose of the default 253 IPs reserved for? (192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254) and when manually assign an IP, is it supposed to be inside or outside from the default?
Thanks.
