Hello all, not sure if anyone is interested but our condominium building was lit up with fibre this summer. As part of the build out TELUS installed public wifi in common areas. I was able to meet with the installers and they mentioned that the previous public wifi hardware (the Aruba boxes) were being phased out and the Huawei PoE boxes were now being deployed. These do double duty as an LTE picocell as well as a the public wifi AP.
Compact units that immediately improved my signal (from 1 bar to 5 on my iPhone 7). The range is somewhat limited but I'm pleased they are starting to deploy this. TELUS sometimes has poor signal in some areas and they are often overlooked. These picocells ought to help immensely.
If anyone is interested I can take pictures of the hardware. My understanding is the boxes are provisioned (in Edmonton at least) with 250 Mbps throughput.
