Can I feed any Telus box from ethernet switch?

I have pure fiber and it's working good. I want to add a wired ethernet outlet by my TV. Currently the TV is fed via house coax from router to an F connector wall outlet. Then it goes into a moca adapter (coax to ethernet), then into the PVR main box. I am trying to confirm what the install tech said. He said the connection to any Telus box must not be fed via a switch or things can go wrong when updating, etc. That means I need to install a coax splitter and get another moca adapter to feed my laptop. Is this correct or can I just use an ethernet switch at the output of the current moca adapter and feed both the PVR box and my laptop?
