I just received a notice from Telus/Ledcor representatives saying that they will be starting installation in our MDU! We're located in the UBC area of Vancouver.
The text of the letter, with some useless parts removed:quote:We are pleased to inform you that your building has been chosen by TELUS to be upgraded to the new Fibre Optic Network as part of their $1 Billion investment into the Vancouver Area!
... There is NO CHARGE to the building or property residents for this improved capability and no obligation to subscribe to new TELUS Fibre Optic based services.
The next step is to bring a dedicated Fibre Connection (Fibre Plug) to each individual unit at no charge.
... The upgrade is scheduled to begin in the early summer and should take, on average, 2-4 days to complete. A TELUS representative, [name redacted], will be visiting you ..., to have you sign a "Suite Wiring Permission Form".
Once the network is built inside the building, there may be a delay before the network is fully turned on and ready to be used, due to other components of the network outside of the building. TELUS will inform us of the date the network is turned on and when any new or additional services you may have chosen to sign up for are available.
The "TELUS representative" actually seems to be someone employed at Ledcor, the construction company building out TELUS' fibre infrastructure.
In addition, someone from our strata council said that as part of the deal, TELUS would be bringing free WiFi to the lobby space in our building (I'm guessing via one of those #TELUS networks).
One thing I found interesting was that they mentioned they will be bringing a "fibre plug" to each unit... does anyone know what that may mean? My impression all along was that they were going to be wiring ethernet.
Also, if anyone else has any info on the MDU rollout, I would love to hear!
