For anyone who might have some legacy hardware still operating, with towers still capable of CDMA. https://www.telus.com/en/bc/support/article/mobility-service-updates End of CDMA network support Posted June 3, 2016 CDMA technology is reaching the end of its service life. Following the launch of newer, faster and more reliable wireless networks - HSPA in 2009 and LTE in 2012 - our major equipment suppliers have been steadily decreasing the production and support of the CDMA equipment we require in order to maintain the network. To ensure the best possible experience with no disruption of service once we can no longer purchase CDMA equipment and maintain that network, we have been communicating to customers in order to move them to our newer 4G networks. We will shut down the CDMA network on January 31st, 2017. After this, customers will no longer be able to use their CDMA phones. CDMA phones are older devices that do not use SIM cards. Between now and then, we will be reaching out and encouraging customers still using the CDMA network, to upgrade to devices working on the newer HSPA or LTE networks.-- The Privacy Commissioners of Canada now work for the Corporations and not the People.
