So get this. I need to change my email passwords. I look online and I can't do it from there. The only way to do it is to either chat or phone them. So ok hassle but it needs to be done. So I go on chat only to find out two things. First here are their password requirements:
Must NOT exceed 8 characters in length
Should not be the same as the username, nor is it part of the password, That includes backwards
Must contain one number , one special character (!@#$%^&*)
No blank spaces
At least one upper case and lower case letter
Notice the first one, "Must NOT exceed 8 characters in length" And yes that is not a typo, just stupid in this day and age.
Now the real kicker is this you can't reset the password without telling the person on chat or phone your new password. They have to do it. I mean they want me to be secure but have me tell them the new password to another person? That has always been rule number one, don't tell anyone your password. Honestly this has left a very sour taste in my mouth and is making me seriously reconsider being on Telus. What makes it worse is that right now I'm basically stuck having a possibly compromised email account or giving my new password to someone who could then send it off to anyone out there.
Just completely ridiculous. Oh and the reason for this is, "This feature was temporarily disabled due to reported attempts of people targeting customer information, especially Telco's in U.S. and Canada. While we're enhancing the security features, the password reset can be done once you contact us which requires authentication. The feature should be available again once the security upgrades are complete. "
In other words if you need to change it now, you are screwed.
