Speed dropoffs outside my immediate area:

I commented on it in another thread but I'm seeing big speed dropoffs when connecting outside of my immediate area. I used speedtest.net and if ran tests on servers in my area (Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Bellingham etc...) I would get full speed (54mpbs to 55mbps down and 11mbps up). When I start speedtesting further out I'm seeing a huge rolloff in speeds. Even running speedtest to Alberta I was seeing speeds under 30mbps. Less than 25mbps to Toronto, and lucky if I got 20mbps to Europe. I started to notice it because the speed of my usenet server dropped off. When Telus TV/Internet was installed last week I was getting the full 50mbps (55mbps with cable boxes off). Now it's topping out just over 30mbps. That's when I started to mess around with speedtests to see whats going on. Being as I can speedtest in my own part of the worse and there's no problems it feels like my home connect is fine. Is there anything on Telus' network that would cause the internet speeds outside my immediate geographical area to slow down like this? It's a bit disappointing only a week in.
