So I live in a newer condo circa 2007. The Phone systems were installed by Telus using something that looks like cat 5/6 wiring. I have some questions!
First question: At what point do we start owning the equipment? The line comes off a pole outside into the building via underground conduit. It hits a "telus" box where the line is then split into separate wires which end up going to the suites. After coming off a simple bus of some kind. Each suite is serviced by one line of Ethernet cable that is spilt into many wall jacks somewhere in the suites.
Second question: because each suite is serviced only by one line and there are up to ten phone jacks in each site suite then there has to be some kind of a bus in suite somewhere, correct?
The reason behind these two questions is I want to repurpose my "phone lines" into a local network because there are so many damn jacks that I can easily convert to RJ45. Problem is I haven't found the convergence point insuite yet and there is only drop ceiling in the utility room.
So I'm looking for a bit of advise about where to start from a tech that's done new construction. If it matters, the condo is built to commercial standards. Concrete, metal framework, thicker drywall etc. No as builts were ever given to us. Should I be looking for drawings?
Anyway, your help is appreciated.
