We recently got a payphone reinstalled here. It took CITC intervention, and lots of letters to news media, Member of Parliament, Provincial Representative, and Telus executives in order to get it to happen.
Now I find the phone does not work as expected and am wondering if it is a problem with the software or if it my expectations which are defective.
Does anybody have any experience, or knowledge about, Telus Charge-A-Call service? I don't know the model but it looks like a Ceeco. The front plate looks like this:

I was able to make a local call and also contact the operator. Any long distance call seems to fail with a report that the credit card is not a valid calling card. It's great that 911 works, that was the most important aspect, but there is no practical use for local calls from a payphone here. Upon dialling any number, the opening remark is that "calling cards are no longer accepted". The whole thing comes across like rather amateurish, or perhaps even hacked, software. I don't really have the energy to go through another CITC and public media ordeal again, but am wondering what people know about this particular Telus service.
